About WorldTip

WorldTip is a small, independent travel tool: a tip calculator that adapts to local customs in 40+ countries and converts the result into whatever currency you're thinking in, using live exchange rates.

Why this exists

Tipping norms vary enormously between countries — what's generous in one city is confusing or even mildly rude in another — and it's genuinely hard to keep them straight while traveling. WorldTip exists to give a fast, honest, no-login answer to "what should I actually tip here?" without digging through a dozen forum threads.

How the guidance is put together

The tipping figures on this site are compiled from publicly available travel, etiquette, and finance publications, cross-checked against multiple sources where possible, and periodically reviewed. They're presented as general starting points, not a definitive or legal standard — customs vary by city, by establishment, and change over time faster than any single source can track perfectly.

How the currency conversion works

Exchange rates are pulled live from the Frankfurter API, which sources its data from the European Central Bank. If the live feed is ever unreachable, the calculator falls back to a recent approximate rate and tells you so on the page.

Who's behind it

WorldTip is an independent, ad-supported site built and maintained by a solo creator. It isn't affiliated with any bank, payment provider, or tourism board. See the Contact page to get in touch, including to flag a correction.
